Preston Shmeston.

have it.

have it.

We won the match quite convincingly; and whilst there can be question marks drawn up as to the quality of an opposition that gifted the game to us through lack of defensive pressure. Was a little bit like watching us play against the ‘spurs of old’ at times. But anyway; particular headlines of note:

Peter Crouch is awesome. Turns out he’s one of those very rare players that with the support of a squad built of some like-minded ex-Portsmouth players trained by a certain Mr Redknapp finds himself much more confident in front of goal than previously thought. With Heskey looking as likely to score as a eunuch in the near future and Crouchy’s hold-up game improving by the game we could be looking to send two of our top strikers to the World Cup next summer. There have been a few naysayers towards his performances in the couple of substitute appearances he has made since scoring the fourth headed chance against Birmingham. But for the most part he’s a striker that creates chances; and whilst they generally are not as ‘oo and arred’ at as the shots Defoe or Keano drag wide; Crouch’s all round game is worthy of a start tomorrow in anyone’s estimations. At least to keep his development this season on track.

The second headline for me would be the tragedy of Giovani dos Santos. Harry knows he’s talented; just as we do and kept hold of him for the time-being under the guise of a buttoned lip. The fact that he hasn’t come out and said that Gio should be considered the future of the club would seem to suggest that previously mentioned attitude problems are largely in the way of his progress into the player he was touted to be this time last year. His injury now would seem to suggest that he may be out for a long time, and thus find himself being smuggled under a blanket out of White Hart Lane this winter heading to the warmer climes of Deportivo in Spain, who seem to keep releasing reports of interest in securing his services.

As for Burnley; we all remember last season’s Carling Cup shenanigans. Let’s not take them too lightly please; especially considering the obvious shot stopping capabilities of ‘The Beast’ Brian Jensen. I’d like to see Bale and Crouch start to maximize ourselves going forward and secure an early goal. Defensively we’ll have less to worry about I feel.
